The 2025 Ventia Hobart Cup
Our Partners
A bit of information
The 2025 Ventia Hobart Cup will be held on Friday, 5th, Saturday, 6th and Sunday, 7th September 2025.
All coaches and team managers will need to provide their Working with Vulnerable People information in accordance with Government regulations. The Coach or Team Manager must also complete the Code of Conduct form to acknowledge they have read and understood this information.
Games are being played all over Hobart. Wentworth Park, Cornelian Bay, The Friends’ School (Bell Street), Queens Walk, Soldiers Memorial, Domain West, and Lower Queenborough. The tournament is organised by the Central Region Junior Football Association and the tournament Director is Victoria Morton. The tournament is sanctioned by Football Tasmania and supported by our wonderful naming rights sponsor Ventia.
Any team whose players are registered with Football Australia are eligible to participate whether they are club, association or even school based. Grouping of teams into divisions will depend on the number of teams entered in that particular age group, noting that each age category will be limited to 10 teams.
The entry fee for this tournament covers the costs of administration, maintenance, ground and facility hire, ambulance, referee fees, trophies and medallions. This tournament is held purely for the enjoyment and advancement of the children who participate. Everyone involved — whether a player, coach, team manager or spectator — are expected to follow the Codes of Conduct.
The rules are adapted from the current FIFA and ALDI Mini Roos rules.
We are offering competitions for the U5 and U7 (4-a-side) age groups mixed teams. Players in these age groups will be given participation medallions (maximum of 8 per team) and a Hobart Cup branded football at the end of the tournament.
There will be competitions for both Mixed and Girls in the Under 8s to Under 16s age groups, and the winners and runners up in these age group categories will receive trophies and medallions, courtesy of our sponsor Ventia.
Match Officiating – Referees and Game Leaders
Youth Games (U13 and above)
The Hobart Cup will endeavour to appoint referees for all Youth matches, however, due to an ongoing shortage of referees, this cannot be guaranteed.
Each team will be expected to provide one Assistant Referee (lines person) for every game.
In the event that no official referee is available, each team is responsible for arranging a referee for one half of the match.
We ask for your cooperation and understanding as we work to deliver a fair and enjoyable tournament under current constraints.
Junior Games (U5–U12)
All junior games follow the CRJFA model and are officiated by Game Leaders, not formal referees.
Each team is responsible for refereeing one half of the match.
Game Leaders are expected to create a fun and supportive environment, focusing on learning, safety and encouragement over strict enforcement of rules.
Please ensure your team officials are aware of these requirements and ready to assist where needed.
Quick Facts
The Hobart Cup is organised and run by Morton’s Soccer School, is sponsored by Ventia and the Central Region Junior Football Association, and is sanctioned by Football Tasmania.
Entry fee is $375 (including GST) per team (ages U8 and up), and $225 (including GST) per team for ages U6 and U7. Please review the Refund and Cancellation Policy before registering your team.
Due to ground limitations, we will be capping each age category from U8 and up to 10 teams in the 2025 Ventia Hobart Cup.
Each team will play a minimum of 4 games.
Wherever possible, accredited centre referees will be appointed to youth games and youth teams will be required to provide a line referee. However, teams should be prepared to provide a centre referee for half a game in addition the line referee if no referee is appointed.
Junior teams will need to share the referee duties (half a game each), as there are not enough referees available to cover these games.
Winner and Runner Up team trophies and individual medallions for the U8 and above age groups.
Only the U5, U6, and U7 age groups will be provided with participation medallions and Hobart Cup branded footballs (maximum 8 per team).
First aid will be on site.
Refreshments are available at most venues.
Presentations on the Final Day
We will endeavour to have presentation ceremonies, but due to the complexity of having multiple venues it might not always be possible.
Please contact thehobartcup@bigpond.com if you need to arrange for your trophies/medallions to be posted.
